Problem:  How to solve a mixed message problem?
The Catholic Schools Foundation, who most famous proponent, Peter Lynch, has been raising substantial amounts of money for inner city scholarships for needy children for many years. Recently, new school initiatives, including, related fund raising efforts by other leading Catholics in the Archdiocese of Boston has caused much confusion among prospective donors. We conducted a Main Message session with the Catholic Schools Foundation’s (CSF) Executive Committee, including Peter, to solve this problem. Their conclusion was that CSF was really focused on raising money for scholarships. That’s what it really did most of the time. In the process, the group created a related main message that, also, identified prospective donors’ interests and how they, uniquely, addressed them. As a result, CSF now has a clear message that does not compete with the other fund raising initiatives, but is complementary to them.
