Problem: How to create a message to win the House of Representatives
In 2004 Democratic Minority Leader Pelosi first expressed interest in the MainMessage process because her number one problem was coming up with a message. She was looking for new ideas from corporate America rather than from the traditional Beltway consultants. She quickly grasped the possibilities of MainMessage to "frame the message". In 2006, Leader Pelosi rolled out a new message called a "New Direction for America" and a "6 for 06" plan, using the process, of the specific things the Democrats were going to do in the first hundred hours once they won. For the first time, in many campaigns, the Democrats had a clear message and a plan, that resonated with voters, and it worked. Nancy Pelosi became Speaker of the House and she believes that MainMessage helped her do it.
