Problem: How to frame a message and do it via conference call?
Tim was a high tech entrepreneur running for office for the first time in a District in Florida where there was a long time incumbent. Under the circumstances, Tim was a long shot candidate. However, being a successful entrepreneur, he wanted a message but was having trouble coming up with it. Since time was of the essence it was decided to run him and his advisors through the MainMessage process via a conference call, something that had never done before. Tim, and his staff, including consultants came up with their message including the key concerns of the voters that he planned to address when he got to Washington. His first chance to use his new main message was immediately after the conference call when he was meeting with the editorial board of the Sun Sentinel newspaper, a very important newspaper in his District. He felt it went "great", and it was in considerable contrast to his opponent’s response to the same board. The result was that Tim received the endorsements of the four key newspapers in his District, two were Democratic and two were Republican. The point is that Tim Mahoney was prepared with an effective message when his opponent withdrew, unexpectedly. It still turned out to be a very close race but Tim won and framing his message with MainMessage via conference call was key to his win.
