Problem:  How does a new Board of Directors get to know management and a company?
This semiconductor company designed and made chips for manufacturers of printers etc. In anticipation of going public the Board was expanded to include some highly experienced members from the technology world. In the process, Board members became interested in how the company was positioned, whom they sold to, why customers bought etc. As a result, Board members encouraged management to go through the MainMessage process. During the process it quickly became clear what problems management faced in the marketplace. In this example, MainMessage was, particularly, helpful to Board members in getting a clear sense of the company’s management and how it interacted. Eventually, the company undertook a very successful merger rather than a public offering.
